Summer’s coming!

On Monday, we finally enjoyed our fist 70 degree day of the year and we took full advantage of it!

I dropped Colin off at school and even that was a treat.  He didn’t have to be all bundled up in winter gear, so he was beyond thrilled to be able to wear his spring jacket.  After I returned home, I put my gym shoes and sun glasses on and headed out for a walk around the park.  It felt so good to be outside getting some exercise with the warm sun shining down on me.  After school, Colin and I made our lunch and took it out on the porch to dine al fresco.  Colin picked the seats where he wanted us both to sit.  He sat with his face soaking in the sun and I was right across from him.

After naptime, we headed over to the playground for more outdoor fun.  Of course, the playground was full of children from the neighborhood – climbing, sliding, running, and swinging.  Colin joined right in and had a blast!  When we headed back to the house for dinner, we found all the neighbors were out “stooping” on the front porch, riding bikes, and playing ball.  Colin got out his bike and joined in the fun yet again.  He also took a few swings of the bat at a ball pitched to him.

Since we already had our grill and patio furniture out and cleaned off from the winter, I invited all the neighbors to bring their dinners over to our backyard to grill and enjoy an al fresco dinner.  Eventually, the “stooping” gathering moved to our backyard.  Everyone brought their dinners and we supplied the plates, napkins, and chairs.  Everyone ate a little bit of everything, the kids played with chalk and balls, and the adults enjoyed good conversation.  As the sun set, the kids moved inside to play games and watch TV.  It was great to be outside, listening to the birds, keeping warm without a jacket, and not having to deal with the bugs yet.

At the end of the day, it was a wonderful glimpse to what the upcoming warm-weather months are going to offer – outdoor fun, al fresco dining for lunch and dinner, and fun with neighbors – bring it on!
